RIGNANO SULL'ARNO e' un piccolo paese a 15 km da Firenze incastonato fra le rive dell'Arno e le colline che lo dividono da Firenze.
Abitato fin dal Medioevo, di cui ne rimangono testimonianza in Casa a Rignano, edificio costruito su una torre longobarda, e la Torre dell' Isola, che si trovava su una isola dell'Arno. Il Ponte Mediceo sull'Arno, recentemente ristrutturato, collegava la Cassia Vetus che da qui passava, collegando Firenze ad Arezzo fino a Roma. Rimangono delle traccie del percorso romano in alcuni tratti di un bel percorso trekking che da Firenze porta a Rignano. Lungo questa strada, nei primi decenni dopo il Mille, nasce la pieve di San Leolino, del 1066. Bellissime le ville di Torre a Cona, di aspetto settecentesco ma di impianto medievale, villa di Poggiofrancoli del 1500, il castello di Fontepetrini, il castello di Volognano e la villa fattoria di Castiglionchio, di origine in alta epoca medievale. Oggi il paese e' un tranquillo borgo della provincia fiorentina, con belle fattorie che ancora producono ottimo vino e olio di qualita', cereali e allevamento di pollame e di mucche chianine.
RIGNANO SULL' ARNO is a small village 15 km from Florence, located between the rivers of the Arno and hills that divide it from Florence.
